چکیده

Oregon State University • University of Idaho • Washington State University Wood has long served as one of our most versatile and heavily used raw materials. From it we derive solid wood for structural and ornamental applications, composite products in the forms of panels and beams, numerous paper products, chemicals, fuel—the list could go on and on. Foresters have worked for many years to increase wood yield from forests, while manufacturers have refined their techniques and become increasingly efficient in turning wood into products. To a large extent, however, each group has worked toward its objectives without understanding the needs and/or constraints of the other.

Differences in Genetic Structure among Fagus orientalis Lipsky (Oriental Beech) Populations under Different Management Conditions: Implications for in situ Gene Conservation

Resource sustainability requires a thorough understanding of the influence of forest management programs on the conservation of genetic diversity in tree populations. To observe how differences in forest management affect the genetic structure of Fagus orientalis Lipsky (oriental beech), we evaluated thirteen beech sites across Hyrcanian forests, based on six microsatellite loci. Significant di...

صدمات فیزیکی و ریالی به درختان مقطوعه در عملیات قطع (مطالعه موردی: جنگل‌های حوزه آبخیز اسالم)

Awareness of quality and quantity of wood produced in forestry plans play an important role in management of this product in market. The objective of this study that has been carried out in 7th watershed of north forest of Iran was to determine effective factors on wood breakage in felled trees, compare wood losses during felling and identify wood losses in felled trees and methods of their pre...

The effect of simulated dust storm on wood development and leaf stomata in Quercus brantii L

Dust storms are increasingly threatening the forest ecosystem in Western Iran. Due to its coverage of vast area of Zagros forest, the Quercus brantii is at the front line of the attack. Most tree deaths in this forest are from this species. This study aims to investigate the effect of simulated dust on wood development and leaf stomata from seedlings of Persian oak. The oak seedlings were...

Spatial Pattern and Characteristic of Tree-fall Gaps to Approach Ecological Forestry in Northern Iran

Gaps created by falling trees (tree-fall gaps) are a natural disturbance in forest ecosystems. Understanding scale, pattern and the effect of gaps on regeneration is important to current and future forest management. The aim of this study was to determine the size, shape and the spatial pattern of tree-fall gaps and of associated regeneration. This study was carried out in three parcels (No.15,...

Evaluation of different growth media for tomato seedlings to optimize production and water use

ABSTRACT- Soilless cultivation systems are used to attain higher performance, improve crop quality, conserve water and land, and protect the environment better. This study has attempted to use some agricultural wastes and organic matter, and management practices to optimize water holding capacity of cultural media, which are suitable for the growth of tomato seedlings (Solanum lycopersicum.). F...
